Website or Instagram Page: Does a Small Business Really Need a Website?

In Armenia, Instagram is often the first and only "website" of a business: a beautiful feed, stories, a "DM for price" note. It's free, fast and the audience is already there. So the question is reasonable — why pay for a website at all?
The short answer: Instagram is great for being noticed, a website is great for being chosen. Let's look at the details.
When an Instagram page is enough
- You are just testing an idea and don't yet know whether there is demand.
- Your product is very visual and sold impulsively (handmade goods, flowers, sweets).
- All your clients come through recommendations and already know you.
In these cases a well-kept profile can really be enough for a start.
Five situations where Instagram alone costs you clients
1. People look for you on Google
When someone needs a service, they type "dentist in Yerevan", "wedding photographer Armenia" or "order a cake Yerevan" into Google. Instagram profiles rarely appear in these results — websites do. If you don't have a site, your competitor gets that client.
2. You don't own your Instagram account
An account can be blocked, hacked or lose reach because of an algorithm change — and all your "storefront" disappears overnight. A website on your own domain belongs to you, as do the requests it collects.
3. "DM for price" loses buyers
Many people don't want to write and wait for an answer — they want to see prices, terms and conditions right away. A website shows everything in a structured way: services, prices, portfolio, reviews, FAQ. The client comes to you already prepared, not with ten basic questions.
4. Advertising works worse without a landing page
When you run ads that lead to a profile, the visitor lands in a stream of posts with no clear next step. An ad that leads to a landing page with one offer and one button usually converts far better — and with analytics connected you see exactly which ad brings requests.
5. Serious clients check the website
Corporate clients, partners and foreign customers often perceive a business without a website as less reliable. A clean site in several languages is a strong trust signal — especially if you work with clients from abroad or from the diaspora.

The best option: website + Instagram together
It's not a choice of one or the other. The most effective scheme for a small business looks like this:
- Instagram attracts attention, shows the atmosphere and builds a community.
- The link in bio and in ads leads to the website — not to a list of links, but to a page with a clear offer.
- The website answers questions, shows prices and portfolio and collects requests via a form, WhatsApp or Telegram.
- Google search brings a second, free stream of clients who were never on Instagram.
How much it costs to start
A website doesn't have to be a big project. A one-page site with your services, prices, portfolio and contact buttons is enough for a start — at AXION it starts from 40,000 AMD and takes 7–14 days. We explain the price in detail in the article "How much does a website cost in Armenia in 2026", and you can calculate your own configuration in the calculator.
Conclusion
Instagram is your showcase on a busy street; a website is your own store where the client can calmly see everything and make a decision. If you already have regular clients from social media, a website will not replace them — it will add the ones who search on Google, and will make advertising more profitable.
